Maxim, acting on his spontaneous ability to perceive Darkness, stalks and kills a Dark Magician in the men's restroom of the Maharajah restaurant. The method is identical to his previous killings: a wooden dagger, given to him in childhood by his friend Petka, which leaves no visible wound on the victim's body. The only external sign of violence is a narrow cut on the collar of the victim's shirt, as if made by a cutthroat razor. The Dark Magician is found lying just inside the door, a slim crystal tube in his hand, having reached for his weapon too late. There is no blood, and no trace of magic is detectable in the Twilight, making the death appear to be from natural causes to ordinary human eyes.
